Installation of the log siding has begun. It is a time consuming process, taking three days to complete the north gable. Note the color difference between the logs and the siding. This is due to the exposure to the elements. Washing of the logs before staining will eliminate this difference.
The pictures are proof that more time has been spent working than fishing. A foggy morning highlights the busy work of Lake Seminole’s spiders.
Trimming the outside windows is a very time consuming process. The logs have to be cut and chiseled to create a channel in the logs that will receive the trim. There are 26 windows and doors that have to be hand cut and fit in this manner. The trim is 1 x 4 cypress to match the cypress logs. The first three pictures show the chiseled openings around the windows and the last two show the completed trim.
Inside windows and doors are trimmed with 1 x 4 “D” grade pine. Note there are no knots, but lovely grain. Initially, i was going to stain the windows and trim, but have decided to only clear coat.
Tongue and groove pine is carefully fitted on the geometric ceilings in the great room and loft room. Progress is slow, but the results are exceptional. Each board is thoroughly sanded after cutting, and before installation, in preparation for the clear coating upon completion.
Garage insulation and radiant barrier installation were out of scope items that were completed on Saturday. Insulating in the south is not as important to protect against cold as it is to protect against heat. Ceiling insulation will be done after the dry wall installation.
Proof positive that i am a sensitive, considerate guy. I have added sound proofing insulation to the bedrooms and bathrooms. You can all thank me later!
The change order to add the octagon window is complete. Hope it works and fulfills its purpose.
The installation of all windows is completed today. Second picture shows the notching of logs to create space for the water repelling window wrap. Correctly sizing the window bucks during the initial log installation makes window installation easy, with the exception of the weight of the windows. The back porch door was also installed.
Tongue and groove pine is installed in the ceiling of the porch. The final logs are added in the third and fourth pictures. Now that the outside high work is complete on the porch, the final window installations can begin.
