A previous post discussed and showed the quality issues with the staining on the north wall. The logs had to be stripped and re-stained. Before and after photos of the nearly 3 week ordeal are shown. Much better!!!
Septic Tank Installation
A new 1000 gallon septic tank has been installed and provides double the capacity of the old house. Thank goodness we poured wide, deep footings as you can see how close the hole is being dug to the side of the house. Visions of the house caving in were still in my head. Worker in the hole gives perspective to the deep and breadth.
When is a crappie day a great day???
Answer: When you’re crappie fishing with your grandsons. Blake celebrates his 5th birthday by catching two crappie at the 2 lb. mark all by himself. Eight of these beauties were released to grease and invited to lunch. They were delicious guests!
Miscellaneous Progress
Value Add
Tyler’s unappetizing golden shiners are used as cut bait to catch these beauties yielding over 20 pounds of boneless fillets. The largest is 16 pounds and as tall as Blake.
Patience…waiting for the bite
Quality…doing it right the first time!
An inexperienced sprayer of stain quickly created an unacceptable finish on the north side of the house as viewed in the first two pictures. Attempts to blend out the blotches was relatively successful but left the bottom half of the wall considerably darker than the top half as seen in picture three. One thing i have learned in 45 years of business is that all projects have problems. It is how those problems are solved that determines the success or failure of a project. Our builder has integrity and took responsibility for the problem. All of the stain on the bottom half of the wall had to be stripped off and the logs re-sanded and prepped for staining again. This was a multi-week effort by numerous people to correct the problem.
Drywall Progress Pictures
Hanging of the drywall was completed on Monday after 2-1/2 days of work.
The finishers finally arrived today in mass. Eight workers quickly went to work and made excellent progress. They will continue working through the weekend and everyday until complete. This will be a milestone accomplishment which will clear the way for multiple crafts to begin working again as we race to the finish line.
Sun Room Gable Complete
Staining Begins
A Dark Natural stain is applied by sprayer and then brushed in. The darker the stain, the greater the UV protection and the longer the finish will last. You can see the difference in color between the stained and unstained logs in two of the pictures. The fascia boards still need another coat of stain. Two coats were applied to the logs.
