The final three gabled wall openings upstairs and in the sun room are closed in with OSB and Typar building wrap. Window installation will begin after Christmas.
The Chimney Gets Stoned
Finally! Shingles! (and not the virus)
Installation of our Lifetime GAF roof has begun. After several gyrations, vacillations and false starts, my daughters came through and helped me get the right color. Fittingly, it’s called Hickory and will be an excellent complement to the eventual log color which can be seen by zooming in on the bottom of the left pillar of the last photo.
Inside Progress
We had twenty three workers on site today representing Carpenters, HVAC, Plumbing, Roofers and Masons. Things are happening quickly.
Radiant barrier installation is 99% complete. HVAC installation nears completion on the second floor and is progressing on the first floor and under the house. Metal duct work is finished on site. All seams are sealed with mastic to prevent leaks. They are then covered with insulation and all joints taped and sealed with mastic. The second little picture shows the upstairs condenser/heater and air handler installed in the upstairs utility closet. This unit came from our old house, as it was only two years old. Energy efficiency and recycling. How green is that???? I think radiant barrier also repels microwaves, alien transmissions and illegal government snooping. (Ha Ha)
Is it a Garage, or Indoor Basketball Court?
The garage is shown at various stages of completion that reflect its’ height. OSB is being installed in the second picture and then is wrapped with TYPAR. TYPAR is an upgraded house wrap that repels water from the outside, but allows water vapor to escape from the inside to keep the walls dry. The polymer coating on the wrap is non-reactive to the tannins and other chemicals that tend to breakdown other house wraps over time. It has a surfactant resistance. This means that as the logs are washed at least once, or twice a year, the soaps in the log wash will not chemically attack the house wrap. In 10-30 years, you boys will thank me. The last picture shows the 13 foot ceiling in the garage, which could make a great indoor basketball court for the grandchildren.
Another Beautiful Day @ the Legacy Lodge
7:00 am – The moon is setting in the northwest in the first picture and the sun is rising in the southeast in the second picture. Sounds of gun fire shatter the quiet of the morning as the early rising duck hunters are rewarded with whistling flights of ducks. All are blessed with the burning brilliance and pastels of the ever evolving sun rise.
And of course if you have a Home Depot Pro Card you can be blessed with 20 gallons of gas @ $0.019/gal for a total of 38 cents.
Sun Room and Back Porch Roofs Completed
Plywood decking and synthetic felt complete the dry in process for the back porch and sun room. Note the chimney starting to come through the roof. The 12:12 roof pitch on the gables is reduced to 4:12 in between. Unless guttered in this are, we will have a tremendous waterfall for the grand children when it rains, or a shower when the storms knock the power out.
Roofs for the Garage and Front Porch
The Great Room Wall is Completed
The top windows for the great room came in larger than the design plan. The first two pictures reflect the changes to accommodate this size difference and avoid a 6 week delay in ordering new windows. Note four courses of logs in the first picture over the window. Three are removed in the second photo to make room for the additional height. The third picture shows the addition of three window bucks. Subsequent photos show the build up of logs to complete the wall. Note the the precision log cuts around the 45 degree window tops in pictures 7 and 8.
